A Simple Jumpsuit With Simplicity Patterns

Hi everyone. Just like that it’s already a week since my last post showing off my gorgeous wide-leg trousers. Where does the time go?! I thought long and hard about what I wanted to make this week. Something simple (of course) but elegant. As fun as sewing is, I still have to balance it with my day job so I settle for the quick projects that I can finish on weekends. Obviously I will tackle the hard stuff much later as my skills grow.

For this week, I went back to my tried and trusted Simplicity pattern 8124. Remember I used this pattern to make my off-shoulder dress. It also comes with pattern pieces to make a Romper. I modified the pattern to create a midi-length jumpsuit instead of the Romper.

Here’s the finished look.

To get my desired length, I taped a piece of tissue to the bottom pattern piece. Sewing instructions were mostly the same as the off-shoulder dress except with the addition of the bottom piece. I learned the basics of attaching a bodice or top to the bottom part with a casing at the waist for elastic. The fabric is a gorgeous Cotton Linen that I scooped up on a fabric-buying binge during the Christmas sale. It was only about two and half yards (metres) so I barely had enough for this jumpsuit.

My only regret is that I forgot to add pockets. I definitely cut out pocket pieces but realized too late that I didn’t add them. There was no way I was going to sit there and rip out the side seams and then re-sew. I will be adding on my next one.

I cut the size small for this pattern but like the off-shoulder dress, it was fuller than I would have liked. I will be cutting the extra small next time to see if it gets rid of the extra volume.

And there you have it. A simple jumpsuit made while I binge-watched Season 3 of Gotham on a quiet Saturday.
