Apologies For The Long Absence

Hi all,

It’s been over two months since my last post and I've gotten several questions about my absence. I’m still here. I’ve just been inundated with postgraduate hassles. I underestimated the amount of work and mental preparation that I needed for this journey.

I’ve had to take on courses that I would normally have avoided and I’ve done projects that seemed insurmountable at first but were actually interesting once I delved into it. I had help from Dr. Google and YouTube, of course. You'd be amazed at the depth of free information and real knowledge that can be acquired on these two platforms.

During all the craziness, I moved into my own little space. No housemates. I did all the shared space thing and lack of privacy during my undergrad, back when I was a real extrovert. Now, I enjoy being by myself.

This apartment was perfect the first time I went to inspect it. It's what they call a granny apartment here. What we call a boys' quarters in Nigeria. An apartment behind the main house.

I wanted to move in immediately I saw the verandah. It has a private entrance and the porch is great for lazy evenings. I have the space for a small garden to plant tomatoes, pepper and even bitter leaf. I hear bitter leaf grows here in some backyards. My naija people are ingenious.

The apartment has a combined kitchen and living room with a separate bedroom and bathroom.

The other side of the kitchen.

The bedroom wall is painted cream. It made sense to have mostly white furniture with a touch of colourful furnishings. Blue happens to be my favourite colour.

I bought most of my furniture from IKEA. My kind sister-from-another-mother helped me set up everything in the apartment while I was away in school. It would have taken me longer to settle in. Now, I'm pretty much lounging in my private haven. I live in a quiet suburb, away from all the insanity that's a part of this city.

It was a busy semester but all is quiet now. Summer is here! The hottest I've ever experienced. While my Canadian and American friends gripe about their winter and how cold it is and blah blah, I wish for cooler temperature. It was 41 degrees celsius the other day. You cannot imagine how hot it was. The hottest I've ever felt. I'll tell you all about it soon.

Thanks for nudging me to return friends.

I’m still here!

  1. Hi SEG,

Yay! A lovely catch-up post with so much detail. You are forgiven! Lol

I've always liked the precision of IKEA furniture, simple elegant items with clean lines.

@ "Granny apartment" Ah! Australians and their colourful lingo.

I understand that need for one's private space, your apartment looks so pretty.

Hahaha! @ bitter leaf, Nigerians will survive and thrive even on the moon!

I'd rather roast than freeze, I do not like being cold, it's so depressing.

I wish you the very best in your post-graduate studies.

Enjoy the rest of the week.

    1. Yay! Nedoux. I'm back. Thank you for forgiving me and for checking up on me. I appreciate it.

You think you'd rather roast than freeze but you haven't experienced the kind of sweltering heat that we had. It was debilitating. Sapped all of my strength, making me completely useless that day. I can dress for the cold but there's no dressing for heat.

Thank you for your wishes. Have a blessed week yourself..

  2. Dear skinnyefikgal,
    Your house is beautiful.
If the bitterleaf really is growing, maybe we could enter into some sort of partnership? 80% for me and 20% for you sort of deal?
I would have to come see the product first though.
